When installing the galvanized outside corner, I've been told I need to use a specific type
Of nail that won't rust when using joint compound. I have electro coated galvanized nails, will that be O.K.

Never heard that, always used regular drywall nails. Mud dries out quickly so nail is not subjected to moisture any more than any other drywall fastener.
