My toilet has air coming up through the pipe that then makes a whistle sound. I have noticed on other occasions that the toilet will (rarely) bubble - usually if I am running the washing machine and have just showered. This new development with the "whistle" sound is coming more frequently. This is a 2nd home in Florida and isn't used all the time - we have been here for 2 weeks and this just started yesterday. We are leaving to go North tomorrow. Suggestions? Can this wait until we return in a coupleof months?

The bubbles you see are caused by blow bnack from a partial clog. Tell me more about this " whistle". Does it come from the ballcock as the tank fills or from the bowl? Are you on city sewer or a septic tank? Answer me and I'll answer you, Tom

It comes from the pipe leading to the ball cock when the tank is already full and the toilet is not even used. We are on public sewer. Thank you for your help!

Try this. The next time you hear a whistle turn the angle stop under the tank clockwise until the noise stops. Do not turn it too far. Stop when the noise stops.

On my skin the scales are in the upper right hand corner. You're correct the angle stop's the valve that send water to the tank. Did that stop the whistle? Cheers Tom

It's quieter, but still has the whistle from time to time. Do you think it is a clogged sewer pipe? Should we contact a plumber? Can we just turn off the water to the house when we leave tomorrow and deal with this in December when we return? Will this damage the plumbing or make things worse?

Always turn the water off before leaving for any length of time. It's the cheapest insurance you'll ever get against water damage. Let me know what you want to do. Tom
