Hi Everyone:
First time user here, so be patient! My Carrier furnace (model 2BR0024000; serial number YA24575) clicks, the igniter ignites and the burner comes on, only to run for a few seconds before the blower shuts off and the furnace shuts down. I am unemployed and cannot afford an unnecessary service call. Can anyone help with any advice?

I cannot locate the model number you posted but here is an item you can try and the cost if free if you have some sand paper or steel wool. Be very careful when performing this little job as the igniter can be damaged.

Try cleaning the flame sensor which is located near the burners in your unit if so equipped.

Depending upon the style you have they will look something like these.

HVAC 1000:
I tried to locate the igniter and flame sensor, but could not find them. The furnace burner comes on, so the igniter is working. Something is shutting off the burner. Can this be due to the 'power damper' that is above the burner? The external panel connected to the damper was, for some reason, dislodged and hanging by the electrical power connection.

Those external panels are attached and do not just fall off and hang by the electrical connection.

Hey HVAC 1000:
I did have an inspection done about two years ago, but I do not think they went behind the furnace. Is it possible that the damper was moving enough over the years to loosen the two sheet metal screws? It is a small panel, about 4" by 2" by 2". I think the problem may be the flame sensor, as you indicated, or the damper itself. Does it have a 'safety switch'?

All most all furnaces have a overheat safety switch. I think it would be a smart idea for you to call for On Site service to get your unit fixed correctly.
