Speedometer/odometer not working + ck engine light in 97 Civic lx 5 spd
I noticed engine light came on a few minutes after starting to drive on my way to oil change. They said they didn't have a meter to test error signal. When I got back into my car, the engine light was still on and now the speedometer & odometer no longer worked. I think it was working prior to the oil change. Engine light still on. Smell maybe burning rubber while driving? No smoke that I could see. Don't know what broke and if it's something I could fix myself? Any help/insight would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Attach code reader to the data link connector and check for codes. Some auto parts stores will do this for free.

Under the intake manafold there is a support bracket that hold up the manafold. The wiring harness runs between the block and bracket and coming out of the harness is a blue connecter. The wires coming out of the back of this connector rubs against the bracket till it shorts and gounds out. The wire that causes the problem is BLACK/YELLOW battery dash light and if grounded will cause the battery light to fail (IE:not come on in the key on position engine not started ) and the speedo not to work. It will also give you a check engine light and the computor will tell you you need a O2 sensor which is false. Also in this state the battery will not charge. So before you replace the alternator, battery. O2 sensor check the wire to do so you must crawl under the car a remove the bracket to gain a view of the wire harness and tape up the bracket and all efected wires. This should solve your problem
