When is it considered shoplifting? Do you have to leave the store? I was inside Walmart sitting on the bench at the greeting entrance (totally inside store) and was approached by security. My items were in one of those green bags you purchase to shop and no I hadn
T purchased them yet, my husband was still in the store shopping and I was waiting for him. I told them all of the above and they just kept saying "You passed the point of all sales" I got a ticket to appear in court for retail petit theft. I went today and they wanted to give me 120 days, obviously I plead not guilty. Anyone with facts or advice?:eek:

    Hello S:

If you're not guilty, hire a lawyer. Even if you are, hire a lawyer.

You were beyond the cashier's terminals. Hence you were shoplifting technically. Basically you left the store. The benches in the breezeway isn't the store itself. You lose.

Do they have a policy clearly written somewhere that you have passed a certain point where no store merchandise is allowed?
    I would check into that.
