I am installing a ceiling fan, did not look at the wiring first but I have it hooked up but the light switch does not work, the light comes on but only by me pulling the cord, but the fan works with the switch... how do I I get the switch to work for the light as well

There should be 2 pull chains, one for the light and the other for the fan. The pull chain for the fan yhappens to be already on so when you flip your switch the fan comes on. If you just want both fan and light to both be on when flipping the switch then get the light to the on position with the pull chain and then use the wall switch to turn on and off both.

Open the fan at the ceiling. Whatever wire the BLACK wire from the fan is connected to, connect the BLUE or BLACK/WHITE STRIPED wire from the fan to that same wire. Cap off any unused wires!
