I am looking for a victorian mystery series.
The main character of this series was a man that seemed to be a "dandy" was was very stylish and admired by the rich in England. You don't know much about his background in the first 2-3 books. Through his association with the upper class he happens to be on hand when murders take place and he solves them. The last book I read you find out about his early life. He was an opera singer in Italy. I can't find the books at the library where they were checked out I have been through the stacks numerious times looking for them. I have not idea of the author. Any help would be appreciated.

If you know the name of the character in the series and at least one title, then you can find the author through Google.

I don't know any of these things. My aunt and I are both at a loss, which has made this a hilarious search. We just remember reading them and have looked through the library mystery section several times.

If you don't have some tangible starting point, then I don't know how you are going to locate the books.

I am hoping somebody out there who has read the books will recognize the character and will be able to help me.

Maybe the Tito Amato Mysteries by Beverle Graves Myers?

You're looking for the julian kestrel series by kate ross. Excellent series, but there's only four books because the author died. Cut to the quick, an empty vessel, whom the gods love, and the devil in music. Enjoy!

You might be thinking of the Lord Peter Wimsey series by Dorothy Sayers. It's set in the early 20th century, not Victorian, but has an older style because it's before World War I. He is certainly upper class, and I think he may sing opera, though his primary hobby (apart from detective work) is collecting rare books.

    Not Horatio Hornblower, is it?

I'm leaning toward the Dorthy Sayers book series, too, though...
