I have a moen single handle shower tub faucet that started to leak. I took it apart and took a digital photo of it and brought it down to my plumber who gave me a replacement moen cartridge for it and told me how to get it out. Sounded easy.. went home and used the tiny removal tool and old cartridge pulled right out.. I installed new one but it seemed not to be as snug of a fit as the old one. I got it all together and tried it and the first problem was it leaked worse than the old one and it has no stop point meaning I can spin the handle 360 degrees forever. The hot and cold didn't line up where the old one did. I tried to flip the cartride 180 but it made it worse. The handle had some sort of white plastic insert with notches on it. I'm guessing that was use for a stop but I couldn't get it to work. Why doesn't the faucet have a stop on it? So I brought the cartridge back to the plumber and told him what the problem was he said it could be a defective cartridge but I was unwilling to try another one.

It cost me 60 bucks and reading postings on hear he did not tell me to go to moen to get a FREE one. I did not try silicone. But the no stop thing is the most annoying or I would have just looked for a cartridge somewhere else.

It does sounds like the cartridge was bad from stock, you did good that you returned it back to the store.

Yes Moen will send you a new cartridge for free call CSI at 800-882-0116 and tell them that you are the original owner, it will take a week to get it, if you need it in hurry they can send it express but that will cost you, once you get the new cartridge open the link below watch the clip, select your faucet and will show you how to remove and install the cartridge.

And yes the stop is built into the handle. It you get the cartridge in backwards (that is hot where cold should be and visa versa, you simply remove the handle, turn the stem 180 degrees and reinstall the handle. When inserting the cartridge, do it with the stem open (pulled out) so the air behind the cartridge can escape.

Looks like a standard Moen pull on/push off valve with plastic cartridge. Now call 1-800-BUY-MOEN and get a new cartridge. Those things on either side are stop valves. You can use those to turn the water off and don't even have to turn off the water to the house.

Do I need a part number. And the faucet is a teardrop handle that turns there is no push or pull. The old one had off in the 6 oclock position then turns clockwise to cold then to about 12 oclock to hot and to 2 oclock to super hot. Now its off at 7 oclock but when I try to put the cheap plastic stop on it it will not line up because of that. It needs to shut off at the 6 oclock position for it all to line up.

Try pulling cartridge out, turn 180 degrees and reinstall.

Strange... Moen are the simpliest and the easiest cartridges to install. Try to take it out and reinstall...
