I was convicted of employee theft recently and I am now looking for work. I'm appling at a company in my home town and don't know what to say on the application or how to go about answering questions when I go to the interview. Does anyone have some good advise on how to explain stealing money from an old employer? In addition, the job I have applied for is not in an office it will be production work where I will not have access to any of the money or bookkeeping for this new employer.

Evening, I employ people for my business, and I have to say this is a tough one.

The one thing I look for is Can I trust this person, and obviously you have been convicted of a crime that breaks this one rule.

Saying that I did employ a lad who had spent most of his young life being a criminal of all sorts, and he came to me and explained the whole situation to me, and showed that he had been a good person for a couple of years (police records etc) and asked me to give him a chance.

Four years on he is still with us, and a great worker, with a kid on the way as well he has really setled down and is enjoying life.

I think soemtimes honesty is the best policy, and whereas you will find some people will reject straight away, some employers will like myself remember that we all make some really dumb decisions at time, but the good ones will want to show they have learnt the lesson
