Diketone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A diketone is simply a molecule with two ketone groups. A ketone is a carbon atom attached to two adjacent carbon atoms and containing a C=O (carbon double-bonded to an oxygen). The Wikipedia pages shows drawings. The C=O group is the most important thing.

There are other molecules with CO groups in them. Aldehydes, and carboxylic acids. The difference is that the carbon aldehyde is bonded to only one carbon and to one hydrogen atom.

In a carboxylic acid, the carbon is bonded to one carbon and to one hydroxyl (OH) group.

Can you figure out your question now? I would have preferred that there were two lines connected to the carbon

"=CO" or maybe more preferably ">CO"
