    Connect 1 9/16" Copper Pipe to 1.5 " ABS
I need to connect drainage from kitchen sink in an older home which is now copper pipe (1 9/16" outside diameter) to 1½" ABS. Connections under sink and vent pipe are all this copper pipe but where it goes through the floor into the basement it goes into an iron connection on the basement floor which has apparently become blocked. Previous owners buck-sheed it up by hooking up a flex hose to a threaded part (possibly a clean out?? ) on the iron piping which is in the cement floor, and running it across the width of the basement, and into the floor drain. Now I wish to convert (below the floor) and run ABS along floor joist and into main sewer.

In essence, I need to know if there are any type of connectors available that I can use to connect the copper pipe to the ABS.
    Thanks. Dennis

yep, you can use a 1 1/2 rubber adapter clamp, or an 1 1/2 x 1 1/4 shielded rubber clamp, you can stretch the 1 1/4 side over the copper and the 1 1/2 side will fit just right over the abs. Shielded clamp is recommended(and code in many areas), but the straight rubber boot with two hose clamps will work just fine, as long as the boot isn't supporting weight of pipe. Lee.

I like a more rigged connection. 1/2" ABS Male threaded adapter into a 1 1/2" copper female adapter should do the trick. Don't forget to Teflon Tape the threads. Good luck, Tom

You can use a Fernco, Mission or Proflex CK115 shielded coupling to make the transition.
