Ask Me Help Desk - At my wit's end!

I have no clue where this question should go:

On July 27th I got cut to part time at my full time job. I lost all my insurance benefits and everything else. So I filed for unemployement and got denied for making too much money. I filed an appeal and now I have a court date in two weeks. Well anyway, I then tried to get my own insurance just so I was covered, but I got denied for making too little money.
Also, my husband owns his own buisiness and has steady income only for 6 months out of the year... he is a wedding videographer so his summers are booked! He was going to put me on his insurance... until I found out that I was pregnant and his insurance declined me since I was "not pregnant for 365 days".
I am upset because I got pregnant a week after I lost my benefits.. so I was frustrated. I decided to apply for All Kids (State Aid) since I had no other options... well yesterday I just found out I was declined for making too much money.
By this point, I am at my wits end. According to State Aid, a family can't be denied if the total income in the house is less than a certain amount, and we fall below it. I am now in the process of talking to case workers so they can re-evaluate my situation. What should I do now? I am going crazy!!

Have you checked with Planned Parenthood? I know that they do provide some family medical care.

Have you also checked with local charities, like the Salvation Army? Sometimes they can assist with medical costs, depending on your situation.

What about your local church/synagogue/temple? There are sometimes members of these religious communities that work in the medical field and donate some of their time to their spiritual community.

By all means, if you KNOW you qualify for state aid, keep pestering case workers. Your situation is EXACTLY what state aid should be for.

I was only able to manage a small bit of research for programs in IL--work is very busy for me today--but the link below might be able to give you some more options on places to contact.

Thank you... I appreciate all of your help.
I am trying EVERYTHING... but the truth for me getting denied is a couple of reasons in my opinion. This may sound bad, but I will explain why my feelings are such.
I am married - they like to only help single mothers
I am pregnant - they only like to help single mothers
I am still working part time (not by my choice) - they only like to help the unemployed
I am caucasian - the first question they ask when filing out the forms is "what ethnicity are you", and then the second question is "what is your name".

I am not one to call out the race card at all... I am just saying I have a few disadvantages on my side that basically put me in the reject pile. I just happen to find it sad that this is how our country works... now my baby cannot get the medical care it needs and this mother is PISSED!

Ethnicity should have NOTHING to do with it--if you refuse to fill out that section, they shouldn't be able to hold it against you.

I don't really think it's that they only like to help single mothers--no matter how much it seems like that at times!

The nice thing about Planned Parenthood is that they have all SORTS of options on hand--and they know who you can contact for help.

If there isn't a Planned Parenthood near you, there may be other pregnancy help agencies that may be able to help you.

Lutheran Social Services and Catholic Charities are two more resources that have nationwide chapters. You don't have to belong to their religion to get help from them, but often they have very good contacts to resources when you need them.

Too bad it does have A lot to do with things. The first time I filled the form out I left that section blank. They sent it back to me saying I needed to put an ethnicity otherwise they will not look into it!
Sorry, I don't mean to get upset... I am just extremely frustrated!!

I wish I could name some more options for you, but not being in your area makes it harder for me.

Even if the places I've mentioned do not have care for you, they will at least have some mental and emotional support--and it sounds like you need that too! I've used Lutheran Social Services in the past, and they're wonderful about helping you find resources to help yourself.

Although the 2nd link is to a page that says "adoption services" the link is a general information site for financial help for pregnant women in general, not just those putting children up for adoption.

These sites may give you some leads toward finding the help you need. They list both government programs and charitable organizations that could be of assistance to you.

Thank you Elliot... I will look into the sites you just listed.
I also got a call back from ALL KIDS... after calling every hour and leaving numerous voicemails and complaining... they are going to re-look into my case and call me back by Friday to let me know what is going to happen next. XXXXXXXX My fingers are crossed.. and if I don't hear from them, they sure as hell better believe that they will hear from me!
