OK here it is, I've built only a few pc's but the question is this I have taken friends pc's to my house ( After they have already been using their modems online ) and the only thing was I would do a full restore ( fresh ) while at my house I would hook up my modem, and never had an issue with getting online. It would work as great as my personal PC does. But when they take the PC back to their house hook up their modem and boot up NO LUCK! I don't get it, why does it work fine for me and not for them? They were using it before. I didn't have to do anything at all to get online with it? Simple restore, hooked it up with my modem, booted and viola, no problem? I would even do all their updates for them sp3 and so forth. But they go home with it and cannot get online? Is it because maybe the computer ip don't match the modem ip of the account ? I don't get it. :mad: <lol

Unsure what you mean by that. Sometimes the ISP/modem will note the MAC address of the computer requiring the modem to be rebooted if the computer is swapped or changed, but since it is the same computer I doubt this is an issue. Perhaps try power cycling the modem once the computer is hooked back up anyway. Another possibility is the computer's network adapter configuration would have to be set for DHCP as well as their modem or router would need to have DHCP enabled for the computer to automatically be assigned an address compatible for their LAN. Does the computer have a static address assigned when you receive it?

Well first thanks for the response, A friend had A PC all messed up after he used it for A few months ( due to no adware or antivirus software being installed ) So I took the PC home. ( and note he could still get online and use the PC it was just really slow etc ) you know he had multiple viruses and adware. So I re-installed A fresh- clean OS XP and did all the updates at my house. Well when he took it home to use I thought he would be able to just hook up his hardware ( including his modem ) and all would be fine? But it wasn't. When I restored the PC and had it hooked to my modem I just clicke dthe IE icon on the desktop and loaded a web page with no problems? But he has no connection. He's calling his ip provider now so we'll see. I was thinking he'd might have to register the modem?

Computers are seldom that automatic. If his modem is connected via typical Ethernet cabling, it is probably just a matter of configuring the network adapter with the correct ip address. If the modem has a USB or other connection to the computer, a driver may be need installation.

First determine how your friend is connecting the modem. If it is through a network adapter, verify the network adapter is receiving an IP address with "ipconfig /all" entered at a command prompt.
