I have installed a subpanel to supply electric power to my barn from a workshop. I used #2 aluminum underground wire which runs approximately 150 feet.

I have new breaker boxes at both ends of the service. I am feeding the subpanel through a 60 amp breaker at the shop.

The shop has an existing single ground rod and I have an existing ground rod at the barn as well as I have installed a ground plate 2 feet deep and linked it to the ground rod.

It is my understanding that the subpanel should not have the neutral bus connected to the ground bus. When I disconnect this link however the gfci outlets will not work. How can I ground the subpanel successfully and get my gfci outlets to work?

Would removing the barn ground wire from the ground bus and grounding it to the barn panel work?
