    Kohler engine replacement
Broken rod in Kohler courage sv600s engine. New engine on order. Question is how do I get the pulleys, elec pto switch, etc off the old shaft? I did see illustrated instructions on this somewhere but can not find it now that I need it. Please help, Thanks

In general one needs to make sure the shaft is smooth and possibly use some penetrating oil. Remove any set screws.

In general, pulley pullers are necessary such as this one.

Pulleys such as harmonic balancers on a car require a special puller because the pulley is glued to another shaft with an absorbing material between them, thus it must be pulled using two bolt holes in the pulley.

    Hi,
Generally unplug the electrical connector for the clutch and block the engine from spinning and remove the bolt out in the center of the clutch. If you are lucky, it will drop off; if not some lubricant may be needed. Locking the park brake will hopefully take the tension of the motion drive belt.
Since you have not said what brand, I cannot point you to a manual there, but the engine manual is the next to the last at:
    Kohler Manuals
    Peace,
