    Hanging a new interior door.
I am going to hang a new interior door. The old door was used to router out the hinge and handset placement. Here is the question. The new hinges are 3 inches long with a 1/4 inch radius. The old hinges are 3 inches with a 5/8 inch radius. Can I use the new hinge with the 1/4 inch radius? (the new ones are a different color)

.25 inch radius? Do you mean thickness?

The "radius" part is confusing me, and I am thinking you mean thickness. But then you add 5/8 inche radius...

The simple answer here is that you need to go by the hinges you are using, not the ones that were on the old door. I do think using new hinges are better because even if you cannot see it, the old hinges could be bent or warped.

Trace your new hinge set on your new door, and do your hole for the door knob after you install the door. That way you can ensure you have the exact alignment. Old door hing placement, settling and other variables will make a difference and you should make sure that you have the proper alignment with new door.

The radius of a hinge refers to the radius of the corner of the hinge leaf. In other words the new hinge has a sharper corner than the old. Or to say it another way the old hinge has a more rounded corner than the new.

    Canmore,
Yes you can use them, just chisel out the corners slightly, or just get 3" hinges with a 5/8 radius.

Thanks for that Harold. Of course this made total sense to me later, so glad you are about.
