It is very rare for a healthy dog not to eat as much as it needs. The first step with an underweight dog is a visit to the vet. Are you sure the dog needs to gain weight? Check it as illustrated at http://www.puppychow.com/products/po...condition.aspx Some dogs will refuse to eat more than enough to keep themselves on the low end. With a young Shepherd you may have to tolerate a little ribs showing. Don't worry about it unless your vet says the dog has a problem. A excessively lean dog will have a longer active life than the too common overweight one.

Hello, is there a reason for your dog being so skinny in the first place? What breed?
