First doctors appointment after finding out I'm pregnant
Hi, I have just recently (this morning) found out that I am pregnant! I am sooo happy as I have been trying for a few months. The test I took was a clear blue digital one which tells you how far and I am around 5+ weeks. I am just asking what is involved in the doctors appointment that I will be attending some time this week? I'm just new at this and unsure of what they will do. Any advice will be greatly helpful

I would also like to add that according to my working out dates I am around 8 and a half weeks pregnant. This seems quite late to be finding out but as I have irregular periods I just thought this was normal for me until the sickness came.

Most likely your doctor will do a pap test and a physical exam.

He/she will also take your history, smoker/non smoker, age, height, weight, etc. etc.

You might be sent for blood work and he'll either prescribe or recommend prenatal vitamins.

Every doctor is different, so it really depends on his/her practice.

    Good luck.

If you don't mind me asking what's a pap test? Is it similar to a hpt? I have got some folic acid and omega 3 tablets and have been taking them, was just unsure of what they would do thank you

A PAP smear (test) is when the doctor takes a specimen of your cervix. You will have to undress and lie on the exam table. The doctor will put your legs up in stirrups and insert an instrument called a speculum. At this point he will take something that resembles a Q-tip with a long handle and insert it into your vagina and swipe your cervix.

    No, it doesn't hurt.
