I am peeling up the old peel~n~stick tile from our bathroom floor. There is bare wood sub-floor underneath. The glue left is super sticky. I was planning on priming the floor and then laying new peel~n~stick tile. (Its a temporary fix until we have the $ to completely gut the bathroom and start from scratch including making bigger). Now that I see how much glue is on the wood sub-floor I don't know what to do. Is there anyway to remove the old glue? Can I paint over it :eek: ? I wanted to prime first in case the floor gets wet to help prevent water damage and help the tiles stick better.

If I were you (and Im saying if I were you, not implying this is what anyone else would do)

I would do away with peel and stick. I have tried them and I have not been very impressed with them. The come apart, the corners chip off, they slide around and buldge up.

I would put a solid piece of linoleum over it.

Just apply the glue right over the old glue, it'll stick.

Then by using a solid piece, you don't have to worry about water seeping between the cracks of the peel and stick tiles. (as you said this is in a bathroom)

I have put down seamless vinyl in a couple of bathrooms. I used old beer can cartons glued together to make a full sized pattern. Just leave the old glue. Mostly rely on the quarter round to hold it down. Likely you can pick up a remnant for less than the peel and stick tile. Screw the floor down good with deck screws. Countersink or remove any old nails.
