    1978 silver dollar--worth?
One side has Dwight Eisenhower's face, the other an eagle landing on the moon. Is it worth any more than face value? Is it part silver or completely silver?
    Thanks!

According to the information I found on the 'NexTag' website, your silver dollar is worth about $39. And was minted in 40% silver.

Thanks. Someone told me silver dollars are worth no more than face value, which seems impossible to me. Glad to have your opinion.

I just checked that source and it appears those are modified silver dollars. They´ve been layered with silver and the eagle is golden. (The 39.85 ones, right?)
Mine is an unaltered silver dollar, and I wonder how much silver it really contains, and whether it´s worth any more than face value.

    Hi, YoungHyperLink!

Whether it's worth more than a dollar would depend on the graded condition of it. Do you know what the graded condition of it is?

Plus, is it just a 1978, 1978-D or 1978-S, please?

It is copper-nickel clad. There's no silver in it.

    Thanks!

The only ones that contained any silver (40%) were minted is San Francisco in 1971 1972 1973 1974 and 1976. All have the s mark and were produced either with the blue chip aka ike blue or in a brown box aka brown ike. Some made it into circulation by mistake by some who didn't know any better. 78 and 79 s contained no silver at all. It is worth whatever the collector value is. I put it around 3 or 4 dollars. If it's a proof about 10.00. 40% silver ones weigh about 24g and are worth about 12-13.00 in silver alone.
