Tell me if pressing and holding the dimmer button for 5 seconds does anything new for you.

    Or the light button.

Otherwise, the receiver has gone bad.

Receiver in the fan or the remote?

Press the button on your hand held remote and hold it down for several seconds. If that makes no change then, like Ceilingfanrepair says, the remote is shot. When holding the button do you see a samll red light that has turned on? If no, get ready for a trip to the big box store.

The receiver is what is shot, it's in the fan.

    Does the fan have pullchains?
