    extracting information from spectroscopic data
    Question:

    Using En = [n(squared) * h(squared)] / [8 * m * L(squared)]

where n= 1,2,3... and h is planck's constant and m= mass of particle in kg and L= length of box in meters... find expression for delta E between any two adjacent energy states corresponding to n and n+1.

This considered, with an absorption of 535nm what energy does this transition of state 2 to 3 correspond?

*that is essentially the question... I understand what each of the variables in this equation represent and additionally what these questions are asking for. Unfortunately I have weak calculus and am immediately running into trouble in my course. The rearrangement of this equation to calculate the energy between any two quantum states is essential for calculating the second part of the question, which I'm assuming is just converting the wavelength to meters and plugging in for L. I am also under the impression that the mass would be the resting mass of an electron which is 9.109 x 10(-31)kg.*

Id appreciate any and all help to get me on the right track. Thanks, pauline.

I'm not sure you need calculus. What is the question?
