    Ceiling fan wiring with 2 side by side switches?
    I have two switch on my wall and they have a black and white to fan light on /off switch and red and white to the fan on and off side. Wired fan as directed by instructions-no go.

    I have a black and red and white and ground coming out at ceiling opening. Black to black, white to white red to red and copper ground to green ground provided by fan .

    I get the feeling the red should be joined in to black or white up top but no luck yet. Does anyone have any help?

    The black and white and the red and white in the switch are SWITCH loops. This means that there will be changes of color.

    The white in the ceiling fixture goes to white of the fan. This is neutral.

    The blackin the ceiling fixture is switched, so connect them to the WHITE wires from the switches. The ends of these wires should be taped red and black to indicate that they are no longer neutrals.

    Red and black can go to their respective colors in the fan.

    Example:

    Power comes in on the hot lead in the ceiling fixture (lblack). It connectes to the white from the switch and returns on the black from the switch. This enters the fan/lamp and returns on the neutral wire.

    Tel us all of the wires you have in the ceiling box and in the switch box.

    Tell us like this;

    "I have one two wire cable and one three wire cable in the ceiling box and one three wire cable in the switch."
    Or
    "I have one three wire cable in the ceiling box and one two wire cable and one three wire cable in the switch box."

    These questions also will help.

    What was there before the fan? Were the switches always there and what did they control?
