    Craftsman FS500 Won't Start
My Craftsman FS5500 yard tractor is electrically dead and will not start from known good battery. Hour meter no longer has a display and is blank. I am wondering if there is a fused circuit that is open somewhere. No previous problems with this tractor. Can anyone assist?

    Thanks,

    S. Kweli

    Hi,
There will be a fuse to protect the power circuit somewhere. Need the actual model number from under the seat, usually begins with 917.
    Peace,

The Model number under the seat is 917.276865. I was thinking fuse also, however, I have not been able to locate it. The owners manual does not help. If you know where it is located, please inform me.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

    Hi,
Manual says a single 30 Amp fuse is in the holder behind the dash (page 29.) The manual gives no parts breakdown even though it refers to it on the same page.
    Peace,
    Clarke

Right you are! It turns out I had the wrong manual with my tractor. I talked to Sears Service Desk and found about about the link to the same site you are pointing me to. I downloaded the correct manual and finally located the 30A fuse. It is not exactly behind the dash but rather it is clipped to the fram under the hood nearly completely hidden from view. For anyone else that may need to locate it, follow the two red wires that leaves the main harness and disappears under the right side (facing foward) of the hood. The clip is hard to remove because it is blocked.

I am up and running again. Thanks again.
