    Shower Valve Stem Seat
Thanks for all the help. I did look into the pipe and there does appear to be a seat, but it is in poor condition. My seat wrench doesn't seem to work. Would W-D 40 help?

No WD-40 won't help. Does the hole in the center of the seat look round with four points or does it look like an six sided hole.

No need to start a new thread. Just post responses in the "Answer this question" block, just like you were answering your own question.

Thanks. It looks like it might have had six sides, but the seat wrench doesn't seem to fit. Could I have stripped it?

More likely that the seat wrench is bottoming out before you can engage the proper size. In other words you need to use the second size on the wrench but the wrench won't go in far enough because the end can't go deep enough into the opening. I am assuming that you are using the type seat wrench I posted earlier. Put the wrench in a vice and cut off the first size with a hack saw. Other wise try to find the correct size Allen wrench.

Thanks again. It is the same type of wrench. I will try your suggestions.

I found out that it was a barrel seat. I had to use a long allen wrench (7/32). Thanks for the help!:)

I had the same issue but ended up completely rounding out the hole in the seat. Can I drill then re tap the hole?

    Hello Krawphish,

This is an old thread and is dead you have to start a new one that everyone else be able to see and respond to you.

Did you try the easy out it should work?

If you know the exact size of the tap give it a try it may work, after the drilling and tapping make sure you flush the valve (Faucet) before installing the stem, good luck.
