    91 Honda Civic won't start
    I'm having a problem with starting my Civic. After reading all the previous posts, I've narrowed it down to the distributor or a timing belt.

    I have removed the distributor cap and had someone crank the car while watching the rotor and it doesn't turn, but looks like it tries too. I've also checked the resistance of the A and B terminals on the ignition coil and I'm getting 0.8 - 0.9 Ohms (a little high according to everything I've seen). Could this be a problem with the distributor rather than a bad timing belt? I've tried to remove the shield from around the timing belt to see if there is something wrong with it, but I just don't have the tools. Does anyone have any suggestions how to easily take a look at my belt?

    Any suggestions how to get the shield off easily to take a look at the belt? I can get the bolts out, but there is a metal lip at the top preventing me from removing the shield.

    Honestly, it's a much bigger job than you would think. I'd recommend taking it to Honda and let them do it, but negotiating a good deal in advance. Normally, the water pump is replaced at the same time. Price should be $400 to $450.

    The lip you are referring to, I believe, requires removing the valve cover.

    Remove the screw-on oil cap, look inside, and verify that the camshaft is rotating. If it's not turning, then the timing belt broke or came loose.

    Hi,i have a 1992 civic.if your engine is like mine ,remove the 2 bolts on the upper cover and take a screw driver to pry it fromaround the valve cover werw there is bent metal holding it in.also,the rotor should spin ,so you may want to replace it .

    Try looking for the screw that holds the rotor on to the distirbutor shaft. I had the screw fall out on me once, and found it inside the cap. I put it back on and got the engine going again.
