2000 Honda Civic passed emissions test but failed MIL/Check Engine light
My 2000 Honda Civic EX had a smog test and it passed the emissions but failed the engine computer test, so they say. They told me to drive the car 30 to 40 miles so that the computer would reset. Sounds a bit strange to me to have to drive that many miles to reset the car computer after the battery has been disconnected. I am hoping it is not the sensors in the distributor. As far as I can see on the smog check paperwork

This vehicle failed the MIL/Check Engine Light Test due to failure to successfully complete all OBD self tests.

Does anyone have an answer or do you think driving the care 30 to 40 miles will help?

Buy, or borrow, an OBD II scanner, read the codes, and reset the ECM. Many auto part stores will do this for free. I bought an Actron CP9135 on sale for $99. Minor DTCs, such as loose gas cap, will reset by driving but many others won't.

I have the same problem. The measures will not reset. I drive around 1000 miles a week and have for months. Still, they won't reset. Ill ask them to reset the codes to see if that will help. But doubtful. Any other ideas?
