Hi, All!

I now have a very long beard and moustache. Am looking for opinions as to what people might think about men who have them. It only took me a couple of days to grow them! ;)

A good friend of mine, who is an attorney, told me that people are afraid of men with beards. Is this true? Just looking for opinions...

Are you...

A. Afraid of men who have beards?

B. Not afraid of men who have beards?

C. Don't care if a man has facial hair?

D. Think that having facial hair will be a hindrance to a man getting a job?

E. Don't think that a man having facial hair will be a hindrance to the man
Obtaining employment?

I didn't even know people were afraid of these things. C. and E. for me. I see as a matter of personal preference.
Seriously though, some people are scared of moustaches??

That's what I've heard, Need! At least about beards! Not sure about moustaches...

Some people like what I have and others either don't say anything or joke at me!

What I've grown, fits with me being the director of one of our local barbershop choruses. Don't really know how what I've grown would fit, if I were to go applying for a job in an office or somewhere else.

Shave them when going to apply for jobs? Don't really know...

I like facial hair... I like clean and well groomed facial hair.

Its quite attractive actually... thats just a personal thing though.

I shave when I go for a job interview. But after that I just let it grow. My beard doesn't grow in heavy. I guess it just looks like I am to lazy to shave. I doubt anyone is afraid of me I'm only 5'5" or 5'6".

Long shaggy beards,no.

However there are exceptions.. some men can carry a certain look with a beard,but I have found the intellect of such men more appealing.

I've told people, that if I get an interview for a job, that I'm going to shave.

I know that we live in a conformist world. But, is the shaving thing really necessary?

A bit of humor...

I'm usually in two, different churches on Sunday morning. One is the church where I play, and the other is where I grew up.

A little girl in the church where I grew up, said that I looked like God!

My beard is now long and not shaggy at all. Okay, that's probably a matter of perception and choice as to whether it's shaggy or not.

My eldest sons father has had a beard for the last 35 years that I have known him and on him it is attractive.
I think it depends on the face.
When I saw Tom Selleck without a mustache I was not impressed.
I do not think a beard needs to be shaved in order to obtain employment,that is a type of discrimination,I would think.

Probably the biggest comment I can make is that some females don't like facial hair.

Those that wear a diamonds in their beard look kind of strange especially on TV.

There is facial hair and there is facial hair. There is well trimmed and then there is facial hair like you might see on an Amish man. It just tends to look different.

Then there is multiple colored hair, not pink just mixes aof grey and black.

There's soft and then there isn't just like curly and straight hair.

It's a preference Maybe you need a poll?

I've been looking to post a poll, KISS! Actually, there are a number of polls that I would like to post. Evidently, haven't been given that privilege yet! Had it for a bit, and then it was gone...

I have known a few men with beards,one with quite a long shaggy beard as you describe it,one I met through toast masters and his speeches were thought provoking,some very serious.. a very smart man with abstract ideas..

Another was an english teacher,he looked very unkept,but instilled a love of poetry and prose in all of his students,I will always remember mr.foley.

The third long bearded man,is a local musician,he lives alone and is self sufficient,he writes 'letters to the editor' in numerous papers,his skill at noticing human behaviour is an art...

He plays his music and writes into the paper... he intrigues me.

He is a brilliant man and maybe I am stereotyping but it suits him because of that.
He would be thrilled if he knew I was referring to him in such glowing terms :)

Yes, stereotyping is a thing to be considered here. I'm looking for the practicality of living the United States and having a beard and moustache. Does having those things work? I'm amazed at how many people open doors for me that think that I'm some kind of old fart that needs help!
