    Kitchen Faucet only Half working!
We recently moved into a new house (new to us, very old in reality). We had to replace the faucet on the kitchen sink and we did so with a Moen faucet with a lever instead of knobs and a side sprayer. All was working well until recently when the spigot simply stopped working. Water will not come out of the spigot but it does come out of the sprayer. The sprayer will allow hot and cold water to come out but absolutely nothing comes out of the spigot itself. It doesn't make any strange or unusual noises and it is not pushing air out of the pipes. We have checked all the connections and made sure that the water supply is not blocked by anything and that all checks out. Any explanation for this unusual occurrence would be GREATLY appreciated as we are at our wits end! Other than replacing the entire faucet we don't know what else to do.

Did you remove the aerator ,(see image) from the spout and check and clean the screens? Can you get water out of the spout with the aerator off? Let me know, Tom

    Two Possibilities:
    1. Remove the strainer at the end of the faucet (lefty loosey - righty tighty). If water now comes out of the faucet , clean the strainer.
    2. The more likely suspect is the diverter valve with the fixture body. This can be fixed as well depending on how mechanically adept you are.

Repost if strainer cleaning does not fix the problem. Instructions for the diverter repair can be provided.

I did remove the aerator, there was some grit in the screen which I cleaned but water wouldn't come out even with the aerator off. Our water is from a private well not a city water system so I'm thinking that it could be clogged further up the line. If it is something to do with the well itself, is there a way to install an additional screen closer to the well to help filter out larger debris and grit? As far as the diverter valve goes, I know less than zero about plumbing mechanics but I'm going to see what I can find out about checking that piece. Thanks!

If it were the well more then one faucet would be affected I think. Shut the water off and open up the faucet. Remove the cartridge and check and clear the inlet portson the cartridge. Place a pan over the open faucet and turn the water back on for a few seconds to flush out the supplies. You should have a strong stream when you do this. If not tell me about it. Good luck, Tom

Okay, if you took aerator off and still no water to spout, then I agree its in your diverter. Try this,, turn the faucet on, then push and let off spray knob as fast as you can for awhile. Sometimes the pressure fluctuation while doing this will free up the diverter. If this doesn't work, we will take the next step(removing diverter).
