    Hair loss after head trauma
About 3 weeks ago I was Care Flighted due to serious head trauma. I had a V-shaped laceration in which 8 staples were put in. I was very thankful that I recovered quickly and now back to normal with the exception of some missing hair around the impact area. Here are some pictures.

I've never had hair loss. I'm 25 years old and a little concerned.

What is the reason for this and is there anything I can do?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I'm glad you've recovered so quickly.

I couldn't see your pictures but this is what may be happening...

    1. The hair could have been pulled out by the trauma, much as waxing would do. I'm not sure how long it would take to grow back.
    2. The follicles, where the hair grows, have been damaged. They may need time to recover.
    3. The follicles have been destroyed. In this case you will not grow hair in those spots.

    It's probably a combination of all 3.

You may consider checking with your doctor as they'll have a better idea of the trauma and the potential damage.

It is possible to transplant follicles from one area of the scalp to another, if necessary. It is probably to early for this type of surgery however. Check with your doctor. They usually do this by taking plugs from the back of the head and moving them to the front/top.

Hope this helps. I'd like to be more specific but don't know all the details. Again, your doctor is your best resource.
