    Sound proof
    Hey everyone. I am playing drums now and I want to, or need to soundproof my room so no one can complain. Please help

    I have the same problem with playing one of my grand pianos in the summertime. Have to put a cover over the bottom and top of it in order to avoid the complaints of the neighbors right next door.

    Are you talking about practicing in your home, please?

    Hello m:

    There IS real sound proofing material that you can BUY... Or, you can use egg flats. They seem to work pretty good. Restaurants buy eggs by the case with the eggs on a square flat. I'd get some of those.

    So you just get egg cartons and glue them on the wall.

    Yup. You know the ones I'm talking about, don't you? You could even use the ones from your local grocer, but the ones from a restaurant are a lot bigger and they're going to be easier to put up and take down.

    I'm not saying they work as well as REAL sound proofing material, but they're FREE.

    As I think about it some more, you can buy sound board from Home Depot or Lowe's. It comes in sheets 4' x 8'. They cost a few bucks a sheet. They work too. If it were me, I'd use both. Egg cartons on the wall look really cool, too. It gives your room a studio feel.

    Awesome thanks for that. I won't do it now because I'm moving house soon, but ill have a proper music room so ill do that.

    I play drums as well. Now I live WAY out in the country I don't have to worry, but before I got married, I rented a house in a subdivision and the neighbors were quite annoyed by my practicing. So I went to a mattress and bedding store and bought up all the foam bedding mats that they had. They're shaped like the egg crates that excon mentioned. Just tack them up to the walls and ceiling. Get whatever you can that's cheap. You can also get roll insulation from a builder's supply store. Use your imagination.

    Have you got practice pads for your drums? They muffle the sound.

    The egg matresses?

    I have heaps of them in my roof.
    If I put them up, could I like put dry wall or something over the top so they wouldn't be seen

    Hello again, Matty:

    It's flat smooth surfaces that cause noise to reflect.. As opposed to that, it's soft curved surfaces that break up and absorb the sound. If you use drywall, you'll defeat your purpose.

    Those egg mattress's would be perfect. You could paint 'em too.

    This is all very good advice; however even with soundproofing, sometimes you can't play as loud as you want. In this case, I suggest you look into local studios. For example a place that rents out a room for maybe 10 dollars an hour. You could practice with practice pads during the week -- but once or twice rent out a room for an hour or two. You could make all the noise you want! Hope everything works out for you buddy! :D
