    Who painted this?
    Can anyone please tell me what this painting is and who painted it? Any idea of it's value?

    Is there a signature?

    I can't tell with this picture.

    Sometimes it may be signed at the back.

    Or initials.

    It doesn't look it. I was reluctant to take the frame apart to examine it but I suppose I'll have to. It's probably not a good sign when the signature's not visible... unless whoever did the framing just covered over it unawares!

    It was a longshot that someone would just recognise it and know off-hand... I'll let you know when I find out though. Thanks folks

    It's very nice.

    Where did you buy it, that might be the place to start.

    Isn't it though? I just found it in a market and the amazing level of detail struck me (the photo doesn't do it full justice though)

    Thanks anyway Altenweg (and Redhead!)

    EDIT::::
    I found out the real artist, it is the Senior Herring not Junior. :D!!

    Hey folks... Thanks again for your help with this... and guess what! I found a signature!

    I'm thinking this says J F Herring Sen? 18? I can't quite make out the year... anyone?

    Thanks again!

    Most probably 1858 , that's the year it says this was painted.
    The painting is called Meopham Horse Fair 1858.
