Walking on side of feet to loosen ankle muscles
My 11 year old is required to walk on the sides of her feet in PE at school. The teacher says it is to loosen the ankle muscles before running. They walk on the inside and the outside of their feet. Is this safe?

I don't necessarily agree with this practice, dhhurst. I would rather do the ankle rotation before running. Where the leg is held out and the foot is rotated to bringing better circulation, and loosening the muscles for the ankle.

The practice of walking on the sides of the feet could result in injuries to young people whose bones are not strong enough.

The teacher is wrong. That is NOT how to loosen children's ankle muscles before running. He/She needs to talk with a chiropractor or a sports medicine doctor and get his act together before he gets sued.
