    Hipaa protection of felon
A doctor has a patient that behaves strangely and evasive and the Doctor performs a websearch and finds out that the patient is a wanted Felon. What can be done from this point?

Call the police and have him arrested when he leaves the office.

He is not giving out any medical info, in fact the doctor should have a obligation to turn them in

This would definitely not be a HIPAA violation. The doctor may call the police and give them the home address to have him picked up.

Unfortunately both of the above answers are incorrect. It is still doctor/patient privilege, which inspired HIPAA. Whatever the doctor knows about the patient is private info.
