I have a bull arab/bull dane puppy, she is about 5 months old. She keeps taking the washing off the line and chewing it up. She has toys and another dog to play with, I have told her no. has any one got any answers so I can try and stop her.

That is quite a combination of puppy, pit bull, arab ? (could be one of 3 breeds there) and great dane. Your puppy could have attention defiicit disorder from that breeding (just kidding !). You have a very playful puppy there and you will have to reinforce your authority starting right now and it isn't soon enough. You are the main dog here, diamonds, and you have to let that puppy know that and I don't mean by physical chastising, I mean mentally.

The thing is, you have an unknown quantity of brain matter there, with all that is going on that pup's growing body.

Please explain the 'arab' part. Suluki maybe ?

Quick fix that works about 80% of the time...

Fill some plastic bags with water and hang them from your line...

Your dog will jump up and bite the bags thinking they are washing and get a nasty surprise when the bag breaks ;)

It's an bay dog of sorts. It's a mix of pointer, bull terrier, and greyhound according to wikipedia.

I would suggest you simply lease her away from the drying laundry.
She is young and you can continue to admonish her with a firm NO but their attention span is so limited at that age that she is bound to forget.

Instead of using 'no', you might try teaching her 'leave it'. Less general and more clear about what you want her to do. Remember to praise and give her something that is okay for her to play with when she leaves the laundry alone.

With a puppy attention span, you will need to be consistent and patient in any thing you try.

Yes, have used that language too, but sometimes gets really bad like GET THE F&&%%$$K OUT OF THAT FLOWER BED! &&&%%% YOU BLOODY DOG.

It works, you should see the ears while that's going on. They go through a full range of really upset.

Not sure.. her dad was 85kgs and her mum around 70, she is 35.5 at the moment but she is growing fast.

You might try redirecting the instinct that has her going after the laundry to something like tether ball or a doggy equivalent.

Oh dear, I guess he's in the 20% that actually enjoy water hitting them on the head!

I like the tetherball idea Cat, distractions are good, and it will encourage him to play with harder objects (the ball) rather than softer things (the clothing)

If this fails though then you could try the same trick with the water but use something else to hang from the line as a deterrant.

Depending on what you dog likes/doesn't like it could be anything from dangling rags dipped in citronella (dogs hate the smell) to something physically spiky like a hairbrush or anything else he doesn't like the feel of in his mouth.
