I am moving to Denver, CO and have recently found a new place in SE denver. It is important that I find childcare for my 18 month old son who has never been in a daycare before in his life. As a kid I went to in home daycare and I am a firm believer in it. It is a smaller more intimate environment with less chances of getting sick and a great way to make good friends. What are some avenues, websites or parenting co -ops that I can go and speak to to find affordable and safe childcare? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Hazel, I suggest you ask at your community YWCA. They may have booklets with appropriate day care facilities to enrol in, or can direct you to some. Or even have one themselves. Your community centre would be a good starting point.

Yes I did look into the local YMCA but there full time toddler care is WAY over my budget, they charge about $1000 a month!

Call the public library in that area; they may have a list of home childcare providers whom you can call to at least do a phone interview with and check on costs. Also, the local chamber of commerce might have some ideas. And don't forget churches. Call a few church offices to find out if any parishioners do child care, then get their phone numbers and find out what they charge. (This is what I recommend for around here.) It will cost you some long distance phone calls, but might be the solution to your problem.
