My mother passed away in early September. The company my Aunt works for (my mom's sister) sent flowers to the funeral home. My Aunt received 3 days off work for "death in family". She called me asking why I hadn't sent her work a thank you note yet. I explained to her that they sent flowers on her behalf because my mother was "her" sister and that it was her responsibility to send her work the thank you note. Am I correct on this or is my Aunt right and it was my responsibility to send the thank you note?

Secondly, the responsibility for responding falls on the head of the family, whoever has assumed that role. Other responsibilities include the funeral arrangements, conferring with the probate attorney, arranging for her home to be cleaned, etc. Whoever has taken those tasks on should also send out all the thank you cards.
