Ceiling fan working only on high speed
I have a Regency ceiling fan that is approx. 7 years old. All of a sudden the high speed stays on even when I set it on medium or low speed. All I can do is run it on high or cut it off. Can someone tell me what the problem is?

Remote control or pull chains or both? Do you also have a switch on a wall?

Pull chains. The fan is in with our lights in the switch on the wall. The fan doesn't have a separate switch on the wall.

Capacitor or switch. Capacitor most likely because of age. Parts likely available at CeilingFanParts.com Home.

Couild also be a bad 3 step switch. Can you open it up and get at the wires coming to and from the switch?

Doesn't "Capacitor or switch" in post #4, cover it?

Ballanger and Kiss, it's almost NEVER the switch. And when you suggest switch, the first thing they do is pull all the wires out and ask us how to reconnect it. STOP suggesting the switch is the problem.

    It's the capacitor. 99/100 cases.

I agree. I'd rather we not suggest the switch until we've ruled out everything else. I hate answering these posts "I removed the pullchain and didnt mark the wires, where do they go" and most of the time our answer is "no clue either".
