There is absolutely no need to "shave" them.

If you are worried about your dog being hot, then there are othe ways to keep them cool.

Shaving a short haired dog will only serve to make the dog itchy and more than probably give it clipper rash.

First you need to learn to tell the difference between a Labrador and a Golden.

You can shave any dog - the question is why, is it safe, is it sensible?

Are you talking about a lab or a golden?

I have a Gordon Setter - a "cousin" to a golden and I've had Labs in the past. Why would you want to shave a similar dog (a golden)? What does your Vet say?

They have those coats for a reason. I've seen dogs shaved because their coats are so entangled they could not be properly groomed and they were having skin problems but I've never seen a dog such as a golden shaved for any other reason.

We shave goldens all the time. I don't recommend it. You really have to be careful of sun burn. And it does make them a little itchy.
