    TAXES killing us?
So OK I'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff, but I'm going to ask anyway...
What's the best way to keep as much of a paycheck as possible?
Some say to let them tax you so you get a bigger return, but quite frankly I' would rather have the money each paycheck, but also don't want to have to pay when we file.
My husband drives tractor trailer for a living and gets paid per mile.
When is paycheck comes in I am amazed at how much is taken out between taxes and insurances! Something just doesn't seem right? We still have 2 dependants at home and he also claims me on his taxes. I ask him to speak to some one at work in payroll and make sure everything is all right, but he has yet to do it.
Anyone have any advice on how to get more of his paycheck brought home where we need it now?
    THANKS

You are correct that the best approach is to have the correct amount withheld each paycheck so that when you file you neither owe a lot nor have a big refund - afer all getting a big refund means that you loaned Uncle Sam a lot of your money for up to a year with no return.

Your husband should consider resubmitting a W-4 form to his employer. Incuded are directions on how to determine how many allowances he can claim, so as to have the appropriate amount withheld. See:

Sure. Employ a tax professional to make sure you take advantage of every tax benefit you have coming to you.

I recommend you find someone with an EA or CPA behind her/his name. These kind of professionals are held to strict IRS rules.
