Framing bidder says plywood U clips not needed on 3/4" CDX.
    Hello,

I am getting several bids for installing roof trusses on my ICF walls and putting on the roof decking for eventual clay tile roof.

One framing bidder says plywood U clips not needed on 3/4" CDX.
He says only on 7/8 and less thickness. I know they make them in 3/4" size.

Ring shank nails or galvanized ring shank nails to attach the CDX into the trusses?

    Thanks

Plywood clips may or may not be required by code, ask you building inspector what they require. They are however a good building practice. There is no reason to not use them other than to save a few dollars. I think that is his motivation here. BTW 3/4 is thinner than 7/8 so what does he say to that?

It all depends on the contractor and the codes in your respective city or county. Also if you are in an area which is prone to tornadoes, hurricanes or excessive wind; U-clips are recommended as well as hurricane straps. I always use them on roofing. If you want the added peace of mind then hire a contractor who uses them.
