What is the best way to remove the blades on the sears DYT 4000. It looks like a pain to remove the mower deck.

It actually is not hard for the initiated to remove a deck. It is probably covered in the manual.
Usually remove belt from engine. Drop deck to lowest setting. Disconnect hangers. I realize I have done it with numerous brands for many years, but the best come out in under a minute and the worst in under five.

PS A foot-long piece of 2x4 jamming the blade will do it.
