Carol
Yes, you can be exposed.
If you want to prevent exposure then you must take precautions during sex. Although the only thing that is 100% effective is absitnence, you can use a condom. Avoid sharing needles, if you use needles.
Avoid sharing toothbrushes, drinking glasses, or anything where you exchange bodily fluids.
Also realize that Hep C is a lifelong disease. There is no cure for it.
Thanks for your answer. But I have been having unprotected sex with my partner for 5 years. before I knew about his condition! I have developed a rash recently, which I think may be a sign of hepititus C. Should I be tested, if so how can I go about this?
Thanks again
Carol
Yes, you should most certainly be tested. Make an appointment with your doctor and let your doctor know of your concerns.
He/she will test you accordingly.
Many people with HCV are aysmptomatic (no symptoms).
Some of the symptoms, however, if you have any, are as follows:
Jaundice (yellowing of skin or sclera (white part) of the eye;
Right upper abdominal pain;
Fatigue;
Loss of appetite;
Nausea and/or vomiting;
Low grade fever (under 98.6);
Pale or clay colored stools;
Dark urine;
Generalized itching.
You need to ask your doc for a Hepatitis virus serology.
Good luck Carol. Keep me posted, and please do not hesitate to ask any question you may have.
Thanks for your advice. I will keep you posted. I am very worried about this obviously!
But the first step is to be tested.
Thanks so much.
Carol
It is good you have an understanding of the situation.
Yes, please keep me posted.
Good to stay informed.
Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that Hep C can be contracted from getting tattoos and body piercings.
It is a lifelong disorder, that can kill if left untreated. My husband's best friend died of HCV years ago from getting a tattoo at a place he thought was a very reputable parlor.
