All I have in the basement is a sump pit for a water softener. Is there any way to use the sump pit to make the drain line look neat and up to code using an air gap. Any special fittings or ways of piping to do a good job.

Can you post a picture of your current set up.

I suspect this might even be a ejector pit which is connected to your sewer. No air gap I know of other than a dishwasher but a trap would be needed if I am correct. Where does the pump terminate, outside or into your sewer line.

Yes there is, after installing softener for over 35 years I have cmae up with the following.
Get yourself a length of 1" cpvc piping, some elbows to go with it, large hose clamps. You have to leave at least 2" above the sump hole for an air gap.
Take your piping up the pipe coming out of the sump and attach it with the clamps to prevent movement, the end at the sump use the elbows to make it look like the letter L and put a elbow at the end facing down.
( DO NOT FORGET TO GLUE THESE PIECES )
At the top you insert your discharge line and attach the line to something there for a secure fit and to prevent it blowing out. ( put the discharge line in at least 12" into the 1" pipe)
