    Window framing and chair rail
I am framing windows and also putting up chair rails. Do I frame it as usual or use the chair rail in place of a sill

    Chair rails window casing
I installed new windows and am putting up wainscotting and chair rail. Do I use the standard window casing and then put the rail next to it or do I use chair rail as casing

First delete the other post. This one if far more descriptive.

No. Chair rail and window casing are two completely different moldings. If you attempt to use the chair rail as the bottom piece of casing you will probably have trouble making them meet properly. Secondly, your windows may or may not be at exactly the same height. Thirdly, while both are decorative, they are two distinctively different things. Therefore, they will not be very pleasing to the eye.

No, you still install a sill and a rail.
