Trane Weathertron Heat Pump with digital thermostat?
Hello all you HVAC know it alls.

I just bought a 20 year old condo which has a Trane Weathertron heat pump. The people who sold it to me took there thermostat with them (they told me they were going to at time of purchase) and left me with eight wires sticking out of the wall (orange, red, yellow, brown, white, blue, green and black. The heat pump is wired with the same matching colors but neither the wires coming out of the wall or the wires at the heat pump are labeled.

I have purchased a ritetemp 6020 programmable thermostat. The lady at their tech support number basically said good luck. Any ideas out there?

Try following the color code that is in the new thermostats install manual for starters. That is the reason they put instructions in the box with the thermostat is to help you out.

MyGirlsDad77 The thermostat is listed on the links provided. It is about all I can do since the color code will probably figure it out but the one diagram tells you what not to connect since the Ritetemp will not do the outside sensors like the old GE/Baystat would do.

Now the big question. Did the installer wire it using the color code or is the customer going to hook it up according to the wiring diagram and burn something up since the installer did not use the color code to start with. It would be better for this person to get a local professional to look it over and wire it so they do not take the chance of damaging the equipment or the new thermostat. I never heard of someone taking the thermostat when they sold a house or condo. They should be shot.

They took everything. They were in the middle of a three or four condo renovations when they went belly up. They stripped everything and finished off one unit.
