    Ac condenser fan installation
Believe fan motor on 5 year old AIRE-FLO model 10b4-2a has gone bad. Where is the capicator? Fan wires go under the compressor, (it appears) then come back out and go to the wall. Grainger says it is an OEM part. Am I stuck paying a high price for an OEM motor?

I guess you took the part off and took it to Grainger so they could match it up?

What are all the numbers on the motor itself?

Most of the new condensers have a single capacitor for the compressor and the fan motor, which is really two capacitors built into the one can. You can tell by looking at the capacitor in the wiring box with the controls and the capacitor will have three terminals, with multiple spade connectors on each, with the center terminal being the common connector. You can buy the capacitor separate for the new motor, if your old one is bad or is not a match, and wire it in separate, and just leave the old one disconnected on the fan side of the dual capacitor.

The capacitor and all the other controls should be in the contol box built into the unit. I have seen some people that have wired the capacitor to the short leads that came with the universal motor and just taped it to one of the motor struts or anything handy, when it really should have been put back in the control box. It shoul dbe a simple to just chase the capacitor wires from the motor though.
