How to tell if a cat is old
I have been feeding a stray cat for about 6 months now I was looking at her teeth and her front and bottom teeth are missing. I also have a cat that is 10 years old and her teeth are missing also. Do they loose there teeth with age and do they turn white in the face like a dog does when they get old...

Re: How to tell if a cat is old
    Hello,

Loss of teeth depends on several things:

    1. Age (of course)
    2. Diet
    3. Genetics

If the cat is a stray, it is possible that due to fighting or poor diet, the teeth fell out.

Also, genetics can play a big role in gum disease and tooth decay.

Cats don't tend to get grey hairs like dogs do when they get older.

One way to tell, is by checking the condition of and amount of tarter buildup on her remaining teeth. This is NOT a foolproof method however.

I've seen young cats with really bad teeth who have regular dentals at 6 to 12 month intervals as well as old cats who have perfect teeth and never had a dental.

Maybe a local vet or animal shelter would take a quick look just to see if they can gauge her age?

    Regards,
