Light switch is off but light still comes on
I noticed today in my bathroom closet that the light keeps flickering on and off and making a sort of popping noise, I checked and the light is turned off at the switch. Is this something that will cause a fire or something simple to fix? Please help if you can. Thank you

Is the popping noise coming from the light fixture or the switch.

It's most likely the light switch. If the swith is working properlly and wired properlly, then it should be impossible for voltage to reach the light fixture making it light if the swith is in the off position.

This repair should be made ASAP. If a light is flikering, that's a sure bet that something is arcing somewhere. Arcing leads to fires.

Good morning (at least it's morning here)

Flickering and popping are indicative of connection problems. The correct term is "Arcing". This is very serious problem. It certainly can lead to fires. Here in the U.S. the NEC code now requires the "ArcFault" circuit breakers be used in bedrooms (just guessing that your closet is in a bedroom). You may want to replace the existing breaker with an ArcFault breaker.

My suggestion is to turn the power to the circuit off at the main breaker panel. Then make sure the wall switch is in the off position.

Remove the light fixture and examine the wiring. Look for loose connections. Melted or charred insulation on the conductors.

If you are uncomfortable making the repairs or doing the inspection, call an electrician now.

One thing you need to be very careful about is the switch loop from the ceiling outlet to the wall switch and back again.
