    Grounding a two wire outlet
Is it possible to ground a two wire outlet to a metal box and put in a three prong outlet

Code requires two prong, ungrounded outlets to be replace with GFI outlets to change to three prong. Must also be marked "Ungrounded".

Some inexperienced DIYer may have done what you ask but its not code and unsafe. Like Harold says, install a GFCI but its still not really grounded but will take a 3 prong plug.

It's not clear as to whether the box containing the two prong outlet has a ground. It may or may not depending on the age of the house. It's more likely to have a ground if the 2 prong outlets are polarized (have different width holes).
